If powering up my M1530 having the D-key pressed, and then seeing the colored pages displayed, why do you still say that it is the GPU failure? This totally worked! All of a sudden the system great itself to 2008 and went thru a gammit of tests(like f5) and I had put windows 7 on it prior. Reply Akram Quraishi on August 16, 2011 at 1:05 pm. Before heat up the GPU with hair dryer make sure to wide open your laptop screen for the hot air comes through the key board. It will eventually give out and not be usable at all. This time none of it worked.

The OS would show that I had 60-70% battery charge left, minimum, but the machine would just suddenly shut down with no warning whatsoever, much as you described. i am following the method of heating GPU since the problem has occurred. My son's XPS died last night with same symptoms I follow the suggested actions and its resurrected now, thanks to this article. However, there are a few options for fixing overheating issues regarding the laptop. The first time I done it with laptop screen close my keyboard was melted.
