It shows what a poor design it is and the inherent problems experienced with Windows currently. Had the 100% CPU problem after having unintentionally left my firewall off. It's not windows update, I have that disabled. Then, I decided I needed to be quick to load these patches as soon as I logged into the computer, because they would not load.

Three times I "restored" the machine to factory conditions, and every time svchost.exe choked the CPU and RAM. I'm gonna sound smart. My recommendation is to run the system file checker (sfc). Is there a guide to all the windows services?

It was necessary to disable the service while in Safe Mode. Why Are There So Many svchost.exes Running?
