It's not dangerous, as you've no doubt read already. It also starts the language bar that appears next to the system tray (shown below). I know a couple things... 1) I don't have Office installed on my PC, and 2) that ctfmon.exe keeps coming back like a zombie.

I did everything you suggested except for the vista step since I don't have vista and it's still coming back and pinning itself to the startup in msconfig. CTFMON.exe will continue to put itself back into MSConfig when you run the Office XP apps as long as the Text Services and Speech applets in the Control Panel are enabled. Bill if you go to search and search for msconfig.exe once you find it open it, look trough the different tabs until you find one with a lot of processes on The system configuration tool should launch. Click the Startup tab and then from the list Uncheck the box next to ctfmon. When finished Click OK and then restart your computer. And I think it had something to do with the language bar always coming up on startup. I've been a computer technician 11 years now, that damn ‘ctfmon' always bothered me to the extreme.
if it is... Jon Virus ALERT ! I use Asian language pack so as I guess whenever the pack starts it will either create or run this program. To get rid of it forever, get it off of your start-up through registry, then restart in safe mode, and delete it in system32 and dllcache.
