To resolve this, I have to do completely power down my system (sometimes Windows shut down doesn't work and I have to flip the switch on the PSU). I remember firmware issues on some Seagate models that had intermittent problems with disappearing. Seatools still tested the drive as 'good', but by then, it was too late to RMA it.
