PRESS RELEASE

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
STUDY RELATES THE ARTS TO ACADEMIC SUCCESS

A U.S. Department of Education National Longitudinal Study of more than 25,000 students found that those with high levels of art involvement performed better than students without art stimulation in several academic areas, regardless of the students’ social or economic station.

In a separate study of more than 2,000 fourth through eighth graders, the Center for Arts Education Research at Columbia University found that:

  • There is a significant relationship between schools rich in art programs and students with the creative, cognitive, and personal competencies needed for academic success.

  • Students in “high-art” groups performed better than students in “low-art” groups in the areas of creativity, fluency, and originality.

  • Pupils in art-intensive settings demonstrated a superior ability to express thoughts and ideas and exercise their imaginations.

Despite the obvious benefits of art education, budgetary cutbacks and misperceptions of the subject matter’s intrinsic value have severely limited students’ access to art. Recognizing this dilemma, John Hastings has developed a solution.

The Drawing Breakthrough Kit provides teachers and parents with little or no background in art with the perfect reusable resource to engage, teach, and entertain their students in an informative and constructive manner. After 19 years of work as an electronics technician, John has returned to one of his first loves, drawing.

In developing The Drawing Breakthrough Kit, John has created a resource that provides a strong foundation for creativity and self-expression through drawing.
