Fragmentary backup Microsoft's approach to backup in Windows 8 is a missed opportunity. This process is automatic. If the easy methods don't work, you might have to boot from Windows 8 install media or a system repair disc. The reason I did this was in case of a catastrophic event, where I can't boot into Windows, I would be able to use the backup to re-image laptop to 8.1. It's changed since Windows 8, where you could find it by searching for recovery. The price is very reasonable, and it does a lot more than the Windows system backup.
